Budapest/Novi Sad/Beograd/Sofia/Tryavna 27-30.6.2012
We found the right train! And got safely to Novi Sad, despite the fact that none of the stations we passed by had any name labels. So we had to guess which the right one was. Found it.
The sun was already rising in the horizon when we got to Novi Sad. You could see all the colors of the rainbow and stars above them. It looked so beautiful! At the station we met another Piritta’s friend, Milan. We stayed at his place the whole time we were in Novi Sad, about three days in total. Almost four because our train was four hours late, so we were already thinking of staying another night. Then it finally came and we got to Beograd, where we continued to Sophia.
But anyway in Novi Sad it was great, we went to see the city and the beach. On the beach we sat under this huge bridge (because it was so hot in the sun) and actually in the center we saw also other bridges and some ruins of them, caused by the resent wars. Also the scenery from this old fortress was amazing, we went to see that.
Other thing that I found great was the fact that there was so many different fruit trees all around the place :D You could just pick some plums, apricots or these sweet berries on your way. Nice and definitively budget friendly ;) In the evenings we watched some football.
On Friday evening we reached Beograd and continued with a night train to Sophia. It was crowded and we had a cabin with some weird men and Ahmed (nice Turkish guy we met on the train). We all slept there with our knees in our mouths, as we say in Finland. First it was sweaty. Then cold. And people smoked inside. So not that many hours of sleep that night. In the morning on the boarder we got to watch a show called “How to smuggle cigarettes across the border”, when some locals hid tobaccos in the train. It was very funny.
Finally we got to Sophia. There we figured out that tourist information doesn’t exist in the train station. Nice. So we were attacked by a man who was very eager to info us about busses, taxes etc. Very annoying. We got rid of him and found a bus on our own. We managed to get to a bus to Tryavna. Unfortunately we jumped out from the bus too early, so in the end we had to take another bus to get there.
Now we are here in Tryavna, in the middle of Bulgarian mountains. The scenery is amazing, there is green everywhere, mountains after another and the sun is shining. The town is small and idyllic, roads are curvy and every now and then you can spot little house with a red sealing in the middle of all the greenness. Flowers are everywhere. Very nice.
