Forward said granny in the snow

Riga, 10.-12.6.2012

Our bus from Tartu left at 6:30 am so you can imagine that after the beach concert we did sleep the hole bus trip and it was actually a good luck that Minna woke up in Riga's bus station. I guess that was the point when our luck turned.

The bus station looked quite dirty, but otherwise the centrum of sunny Riga made good impression. Our host had just cancelled last evening and now we had no idea where to stay. So first we just find a cafeteria with wifi. We walked on the first one we saw and even though there was a wifi sticker on door it doesn't mean there really is internet access. Apparently at least here in Latvia. But we had already ordered so we ate omelets for breakfast there. And just then we realized that we have no idea about the currency rate. So we ended up paying about ten euros for omelets. Our budget cried blood.

Finally, as we were really desperate, we ended up using MacDonald's wifi and of course it didn't work either. But then there was one another wifi and lucky us a message in couch surf website saying that one girl wants to host us! After this information and coffee we were happy and went to enjoy a beautiful sunshine and a park.

Our host told us to come at hers in the evening, so before that we cave in our hunger and went to eat again. In Riga prices are suprisingly expensive and we found a "budget" cafe, but the filled eggplant was worth it! Really need to try to make it at home. Just when we finished, we got a text message from our host saying that she can't host us tonight. FUCK.

Our luck didn't turn its' back on us totally, because we heard that there is a campsite near the center. We left to look for it and just hoped that the reception would still be open. It was and putting tent up was quite easy! So we were happy again, watching sun set and planning to go next day to Jurmala, a beautiful beach 30 minutes away. Our luck must have turned.

In the morning we woke up the noise of quite heavy rain. I really like the sound but not today, our beach day! And then we realized that the tent is not totally waterproof, it says just moisture protected. So not really heavy-rain-whole-night-and-morning cover. There really wasn't anything to do about it. The rainy day is the reason, why we have made this blog today, so lucky you ;)

We decided to go tomorrow to a free tour around the city, so that we would learn some history about Riga and Latvia. And in the evening we will continue to Kaunas, Lithuania, to see my dear friend Povilas. I am really excited to see him again! But since I now wrote this here before it has happened, things won't probably go as planned.

But let's hope the best and worry that later. Now we must worry about the fact that the owners of this cafe, where we are sitting, might kick us out, cause we have sat here hours and bought just coffees and snacks. Three hours ago.

And we have a night in a wet tent to survive.

Piritta & Minna
